The Sock Hop was held at the Knights of Columbus on Friday, June 12, 2009.
On
Friday, June 12, 2009, friends and families of St. Joseph School in
North Grosvenordale, CT raised money for Project Graduation in an
enjoyable and entertaining way. A Sock Hop was held at the Knights of
Columbus which drew a crowd of men in slicked back hair and women in pony tails and poodle skirts. The gang also had the opportunity to check out several antique cars generously provided by The Tri-State Cruisers & The LaRochelle Family, eat a 50’s style dinner, and danced to the oldies with music provided by a DJ. There was a contest for best dressed male, female, and couple. The prizes were donated by local businesses which included 85 Main of Putnam (dinner for two), Salon One of Danielson (European facial), and Thompson International Speedway (family four pack). Other donated items included gift certificates to Putnam Vision Center, Mike’s Stand, Express Car Wash, and Lizabelle Designs.
The hall was richly decorated with a multitude of balloons, colorful streamers, old records, nostalgic street signs, and a sundae bar.
They even had the chance to get their photo taken astride a motorcycle
provided by School Board member and parent Scott Konezny. The event was
taped for local access channel CTV14.
Home and School Association Co-Presidents
Katherine Pezzano and Nicole Gisleson spearheaded the Sock Hop. The
Association plans to hold an event like this every year to strengthen
school relationships as well as with the
local community. They would like to thank the Knights of Columbus, the
Tri-State Cruisers, and all of the parents and friends of St. Joseph
Community for making this event a success.
